Tracking course completion on web published version

Hello,
I have a client that wants me to produce an e-learning course to run on the web. However they want to track when the user has completed the course and receive some sort of notification. So I need to find a way to send a notification from the last page of the course to the client when the user has finished.
I know there is an option to send an e-mail but this requires the user having a compatible e-mail client configured, so is not ideal.
Does anyone know of a solution (maybe using javascript) where a notification could be sent to an e-mail address, containing the users name, that doesn't require the user having to write an e-mail?
Any help would be very much appreciated!
Thanks,
Rob,
