Translation of Storyline Courses

Jul 26, 2012

We are an e-learning team in an international company with 26 affiliate companies around the world. We recently purchased Storyline and were immediately impressed with all the innovation that had gone into making this a ground breaking package.

Our enthusiasm faded somewhat when we learned that there is no text import/export function in Storyline - you apparently have to open the course and manually insert text translations, caption by caption, call out by call out.

While Storyline has an incredible feature set for developing courses, it lacks Captivate´s simple MS Word import/export feature. This is a feature that saves us many hours of work when it comes down to translating courses into 16 languages.

Are there plans to enhance Storyline with a seamless method for localizing courses? If so, could you indicate how this might work and by when it might be implemented?

We want to standardize e-learning course assembly around Storyline, but since we have streamlined translation processes for websites and print material, there is a management expectation that e-learning localization should be equally trivial.

I would greatly appreciate your assessment of localization as a strategic feature of Storyline, but would also very much appreciate anybody´s suggestions on how to optimize a localization workflow, using the existing product.

Thanks Justin,

Yes!  It works very well and we are really pleased. Now if only we could embed a video stream from a CDN, instead of embedding video as progressive downloads, it would be perfect! - nevertheless, Storyline has already become our standard course assembly tool here... it is just a very impressive product!

Hi Justin,

I find that some Vietnamese sentences in the Player are not correct in English and do not convey the real meaning.

For example:

Normal 0 false false false oNotPromoteQF /> EN-AU X-NONE X-NONE MicrosoftInternetExplorer4

  • Enter your name in the field below is translated to: Nhập tên của bạn vào trường (school) bên dưới:

The field is translated to trường  "School" .

  • Check to Include Header is totally translated wrongly to Vietnamese: Normal 0 false false false EN-AU X-NONE X-NONE MicrosoftInternetExplorer4 Chn đbao gm
