Translation of Variables

Dec 20, 2016

Just ran a translated version of a course I made.  A lot of my custom functionality was completely broken because apparently the exported Word document gets its variables translated, as described by this article:

Are there any plans to improve the translation export/import functionality to ensure that variables are excluded from translation?  SL2 Update 11.

Hi Alexander - I assume you are using some sort of translating service?

We have the following documented in our tutorial on translation here:

  • Variable names can't be translated using this process. (Variable values can be translated, just not their names.) As a result, you shouldn't translate variable references in the exported file unless you also plan to translate variable names manually in Storyline. Otherwise, translated variable references won't match their corresponding variable names.

You are welcome to share your thoughts with our product development team here.
