Translation Tool - Pootle

I was wondering if anyone has any experience of using Pootle.  My client has chosen this to translate .xliff files but it seems that the text formatting is changed after translation.  When the file is opened in, say Notepad, the formatting information is definitely included.

When the file is returned to me, all the formatting has changed completely to Times Roman.

Is this something to do with Pootle or is this the case for other translation tools.

Thanks in advance.

Hey Tex,

Go back to the person who did the translating and request that they use a tool that maintains the integrity of the original file.

If that is not possible, then you could fix this yourself by following this process:

  • Export the translation from Storyline in a Word format
  • Open the file provided by the translator using a text editor (e.g. Sublime Text)
  • Copy the translation to the relevant column in the word document. You'll need to look through the code to find each translated phrase and copy them manually.

It'll take you a while, but will be possible.
