Translation Tool - Pootle

Hi

I was wondering if anyone has any experience of using Pootle.  My client has chosen this to translate .xliff files but it seems that the text formatting is changed after translation.  When the file is opened in, say Notepad, the formatting information is definitely included. 

When the file is returned to me, all the formatting has changed completely to Times Roman.

Is this something to do with Pootle or is this the case for other translation tools.
