Transparent masks or shape crop for video

Jan 10, 2024

I wanted to animate some videos,  as shapes that fly in. I've seen it where one video flies in from the top and is the shape of a triangle and one flies from the bottom as a triangle. They then meet in the middle to join and fill the whole screen. (If that makes sense). Anyone know how to mask/ crop a video to do this please?

That's not something you can create in Storyline. You'd probably do it in something like After Effects.

You could possibly simulate something similar. Here's an idea:

  • Create an image from the first frame.
  • Cut the image into the pieces you want
  • Assemble the image on the Storyline slide and apply entrance animations
  • Put the video on the slide underneath everything. Cover it up or hide it.
  • Animate the images in and when they fall into place have the images disappear and the video appear and play.

PowerPoint is also a good video creator. You could possibly do something in PPT since it has more robust video features and can use teh shape and video and then save it all as a video and then bring into Storyline.
