I may be missing something really obvious (I only had 1 cup of coffee so far today), but is there any way to hide objects when media STARTS? I know you can trigger the state of an object to "normal" or "hidden" on when "media completes".
What I'm trying to accomplish is to hide an object when one clicks on the play button to watch a video (change object state to hidden). When the media completes, the state changes back to normal (I know how to do that part).
Not sure what your Learners are clicking to get the video to play, but in the meantime I'll make some assumptions (and we all know where that can lead!).
If you have inserted a video on the slide
AND
The Movie options are set to
Show video in slide
Play video from Trigger
Show Video controls
You can insert a Transparent shape over the Video controls Play button
AND set 3 triggers
Play media when the user clicks the (transparent) rectangle
Change the state of the object to hidden when the user clicks the rectangle
Change the state of the rectangle to hidden when the user clicks the rectangle
The reason you need the last one is that you'll probably want your Learners to continue to be able to play/pause the video. If the transparent rectangle is still on, it covers the Video controls Play button and isn't accessible
If that's not your setup, let us know and someone in the community will jump in.
This was EXACTLY what I was thinking to do last night. Thank you for your detailed response. You were right with your assumptions, and your idea with the transparent shapes did the trick.
It makes me wonder, though, what Articulate's rationale is behind not to include "Media Starts" as an Event. It doesn't seem as though it would be technically challenging to implement.

Hi Eric,
Great minds, eh?
Not being a programmer, and knowing how a fix here can instigate a break there, I wouldn't be able to answer that!
Or, maybe we both missed something that's hiding somewhere. If so, hope the community will pipe up.
You might submit a feature request, though.
