Triggers and states - showing both states at once?

Hi, 

I've got a slide where a learner enters a number in the thousands and with help of a text variable with javascript, the number will show up with commas displayed. 

However, the problem I have is that the original number entered AND the commas version are displayed in the box. 

I've got the initial state of the commas version (text variable) 'hidden' and the numeric version to 'normal' when control loses focus. 

I'm not sure how to change the states so that only the commas version shows in the box, and the learner can re-enter if necessary.
