Triggers work in slide preview but not entire project

Oct 31, 2015

I have a "menu" slide where clicking an object (a marker, which when hovered over displays the title of the topic) jumps to the first slide of a different scene.  At the end of the scene the user is returned to the menu.  When all menu items are visited, a Next button displays to wrap things up.  I have 3 triggers for each marker:  1) Jump to the slide in the scene (these work fine and the return to the menu slide works fine).  2) When the marker is clicked, change the state of the menu graphic to a visited state.  3) When the marker is clicked, change its state to hidden).  All 3 work fine in previewing the single menu slide.  The last 2 triggers don't work when previewing the entire project.  The order of the last 2 triggers has not made any difference.  I wouldn't think a variable would be needed for this.  Suggestions?  Especially annoying is that it works on the single slide but not entire project.

Hello Helen,

Just by reading the description, you are right. This should work. As for the order of the triggers - I suspect the reason why it's not working is because you have the "jump" operation first. It'd be best to set that last. I don't know if this is what you have tried...but in this case, it should be last. Otherwise, it won't even perform your second and third triggers because it already jumped to a different slide/scene.

Hope this helps.

Hi Helen!

Looks like Donna has popped in to assist you here and I just wanted to share a bit of information.

Articulate Storyline lets you apply multiple triggers to the same object. You can also apply triggers to master slides and content slides. Here are the rules regarding the order in which all these triggers get executed when learners view your published course.

If you need us to take a look at your .story file, you are welcome to share here.

Thank you Donna and Leslie!  I didn't think about the order of the jump to trigger.  I seemed important that it be first but I will try moving it to last.  Leslie - for this course I didn't use any master slides but thank you for the link and I'll review for future.  And thanks for the offer to view it - if Donna's suggestion doesn't resolve it, I'll be sharing it as I use this type of navigation from time to tome.  It has worked in the past so I must be doing something different/wrong.

Thanks again!
