Trouble inserting a PNG into Storyline

Oct 14, 2013

Has anyone ever had trouble inserting a PNG in SL? I've never had trouble, but all of a sudden today my designer is running into issues. She's getting the following message: "nameofimage.png" does not appear to be a supported image format. Please select an image from one of the supported formats.

She's tried rebooting several times and the issue persists. Any ideas? I can insert the image into my SL file with no issue. I'm wondering if somehow something got corrupt on her end? Help!

Hi Laura,

Is the problem occurring in one particular Storyline file (or with one particular PNG), if so, file corruption may be the issue and you'll want to ensure that she's working with local project files, adhering to the 260 character limit for file names, and avoiding special characters within the file names.

If it's happening in multiple Storyline files, she may want to conduct a repair of her Storyline software.

Hi Cynthia,

I don't believe this is an issue that is currently affecting our users. I did a quick test on my end and can confirm that I was able to add a test PNG file to my project without any issues. I'd like to ask a few questions to help clarify your experience:

  • Are all of your PNG files affected, or just a select few?
  • Are you working locally when adding your PNG files to your project?
  • Does renaming your PNG file to a short file name help?
  • Have you tried doing a repair of your Storyline 360 installation if all files are affected, and you're already working locally?

If none of the above help address the behavior, reach out to our support team here so we can take a closer look at what's happening.

Good Morning,

In response to your email and questions:

Are all of your PNG files affected, or just a select few?

Are you working locally when adding your PNG
files to your project?

Answer:

The issue does not occur with all png files, however, the location of the
file does not seem to be a factor as I've tried inserting from a network
drive, an external hard drive, as well as my local drive to test possible
causes.

Does renaming your PNG file to a short file name help?

Answer: No, this resolution step did not fix the error when attempting to
insert the png files in question.

Have you tried doing a
repair of your Storyline 360 installation if
all files are affected, and you're already working locally?

Answer: Yes, my technical support performed a repair of my 360 software
with no avail.

Please advise. I greatly appreciate your time and assistance.

Respectfully,

Cynthia
