True/False Variable

Nov 13, 2013

Hi,

I am building an interaction where the user has to view 4 light boxes and then then jump to a free form drag and drop. I created 4 images on the screen which display light boxes when clicked on and I created 1 variable for all four of the images since I don't want them to advance until them view all four...but it doesn't work...help! Attached is an image of the programming...thanks.

From the screenshot I can't make out when/how the 'All4' is set ( I assume you want this variable to set to true if all four lightboxes have been viewed? One possible reason for this not working: The 'When All4 changes' trigger only works if this variable is changes ON THIS SLIDE and I'm guessing, you change the variable on the lightboxed slides.

Hi Michael,

Thank you for your response. Attached is a screen shot of the variable. It is on the screen with the 4 images. When I created the variable, I selected all 4 of the images that I want to be viewed before jumping slides and then I clicked on the variable button and filled in the info...thanks.

Hi Marie,

Please see the attached. I've only done 2 images and 2 lightboxes, but you should be able to extrapolate.

I didn't use variables: added a visited state to the images and set the Jump to the next (Freeform) slide when Learner clicks next if both of the pictures had the visited state (2 different triggers..check out the Triggers panel).

Please shout out with any questions.

I am having an issue on a free form text quiz (actually a spelling test) it says the words twice in audio user has to type in the correct spelling. Issue is a I have it set so the slide doesn't submit until time line ends ( 8 seconds) the option to enter answer is not active but the user can hit enter before finishing the audio to submit spelling which is making remaining audio play on review quiz slides showing the correct and incorrect answers. I have tried to add variables to pause media on results slides and triggers on review quiz button to pause media along with variables for each slide to stop this from happening with no luck I am completely baffled and need help!!!

Hi Amber,

Could you upload your .story file? It would probably be easier to see what's going on and to determine what you're trying to do, and why it's not working.

Where do I uplaod it to you or support? Cause I have sent it to support was told my file was corrupt! It is not. I found out that whatever audio the user doesn't finish is playing throughtout the review of wquiz. I took out the option to review the quiz which takes care of the audio issue, but would really like users to be able to see why and what they got wrong on their on pace, cause my slides only play for 8 seconds before automatically moving on.

So issue one user has option to click enter to submitt spelling ( should not) slide should advance when time line ends. Issue 2 when the user clicks enter before the audio is over the remaining audio plays on the review slides?? I have tried to do the variables and triggers to pause audio and it is just not working?

Hi Amber,

I think Becky was looking for the .story file (the pre-publish file) so that she could look at all your settings and play around with it as looking at the published version it's a bit harder to diagnose. You'll want to click on the paper clip icon in the top part of the reply box to add your .story file here. I do see the case that you're working on with Cleo where he indicated the file may be corrupt, and the way to confirm is to try and replicate the behavior in a new .story project.

Hi All,

Ashley, tx for noting to Amber that it would be the .story file that I'd be looking for. Also, though, I didn't realize, Amber, that you were working with support. I'm "just" a community member. Your best bet is probably to continue working with Cleo to sort it all out. And, of course, to follow Ashley's advice as well.

No support didn't help and my files are not corrupt. I I have recently found out no matter what you do the user can ALWAYS clcik the enter key to submit an answer on a teext free form! I have sent in a suggestion to be able to turn that feature off as I do not wan tusers to click anything but to type their answer and wait for slide to advance itself(which is how it is set up) and as far as the audio playing on the review quiz slides I have also discovered any part of audio not completed on a slide will automatically finish on the review quiz slide! he was able to recreate the same issue so how are my files corrupt. I have used different files and audio still same issue. So I had to just take away option for user to review the quiz, no review button no audio to hear! Found a tutorial with a note that say NOTE: the ENTER key will always submit a text entry field for evaluation. I cant send the prepublished because it is on my company server you will not be able to open it but I will try

rebecca I have received more help and information from community support then tech support! they told me to stop user from advancing to next screen after typing their answer to remove next button I sent them project there is no next button on the quiz?? That's not my issue issue is the user can type the word as a free form text and click the enter button before audio finishes so whatever audio is left plays when they review their answers

Hi Amber,

I looked further into your case, and see that Cleo sent you the information on how to disable the built in next button or a custom button until the user finishes - but I see now in your post here that you've set it to jump to the next slide at the end of the timeline. In regards to the Enter key, it will always submit the text entry as an accessibility feature, and if you'd like it to not submit the text entry I'd suggest making the text entry field larger so that the Enter button will start a new line in the text entry instead of submitting the text.

I wasn't able to open the story.html link you shared here, but I did take a look at the file you shared with Cleo. In regards to the audio playing again on the Quiz Review, I didn't see the T/F variables on your slides to pause the audio on your review, but you'll also want to set the slide properties to Resume saved state or Automatically decide - as with it set to "Reset to initial state" the variables may not be tracking.

Still playing audio during review? I added a true /false variable with the value false then on my review quiz button i added a trigger adjust variable review mode =assingment value true when user clicks button 1 review moved trigger up so its the first trigger added a trigger to questions to pause media when timline starts if review mode variable is true and added condition reviewmode==equal to true? what am i doing wrong?
