Trying to import an Engage 13 Interaction into Storyline1

Oct 22, 2014

I have installed on my computer both Articulate Studio 13 (including Engage) and Storyline1.

I just started using Storyline and am trying to import an Engage '13 interaction that I've already created. These are the steps I'm using:

  1. New Slide
  2. Import
  3. Engage
  4. Double click the Engage file

I get the error message "Engage not installed".

I also tried it with an Engage '09 file - with the same error message.

I read some instructions to publish the Engage as a Web object, rename the file, then insert it - that seems like a lot of trouble - why won't this direct import work for me?

Thank you!

Debbie

Hi Debra and welcome to Heroes!

Articulate Storyline 1 doesn't support importing content directly from Articulate Presenter '13, Articulate Quizmaker '13, or Articulate Engage '13. (Tip:Storyline 2 supports Studio '13 content.)

However, you can publish Studio '13 content for web, then embed it in Storylineas a web object. For example, here's how you'd insert an Engage '13 interaction in Storyline 1.

In order to successfullyimport Articulate Engage '09 interactions into ArticulateStoryline, Engage must beinstalled and activated on your computer.

I'm having the same problem as Debbie.  I followed the instructions to publish as a web object, and I renamed my interaction.html to index.html, but when I browse to the Engage Output folder, no files are listed--only two folders: interaction_content and mobile.  None of the .html, .swf or .xml files appear.  What step(s) am I missing?  I am working with a trial version of Engage and Storyline 2.

Thank you,

Leslie

Hi Leslie,

To successfully import Articulate Engage interactions into Articulate Storyline, Engage must be installed and activated on your computer. Storyline 2 supports Engage '09 and Engage '13 interactions. So the trial version of Engage would not necessarily allow for the direct importing into Storyline. As far as the steps you're trying to follow, those were for importing an Engage '13 interaction into Storyline 1.

Hi Leslie,

That is correct - you'd need to have activated Engage with a valid serial number to go through the import process. You could look at publishing the Engage as a stand alone item and then insert it as web object into your Storyline file (they're imported as web objects as well, so it'll be the same behavior) or link to the published output as a part of the Resource tab. You may want to look at reviewing the steps here.
