Trying to view Storyline modules run with Moodle on mobile devices

May 27, 2014

Hi everyone,

Can you help with this Moodle, Storyline, mobile devices problem?

I am using Moodle to launch Articulate Storyline modules, but I am having
a problem them playing on mobile devices -e.g. ipads and iphones.

They work on computers but not on tablets and smartphones. On ipads, the Storyline screen size doesn't re-size, it Moodle seems to ignore the settings from Storyline. The screen can only been partially viewed, it is worse in landscape view, so navigation is not possible.

Any work arounds, ideas are most welcome.

Regards

Juliet

Hi Juliet and welcome to Heroes!

It may help to let us know what version of Moodle, Storyline, iPad and iOS you're using to narrow down the issue. I do know of a current issue with some earlier versions of Moodle using Storyline content that when displayed in Moodle (or a few other LMSs) that place content within the iFrame it does not scale correctly on the iPad. This can be confirmed by testing your content at SCORM Cloud, which is an industry standard testing method for SCORM content and then viewing it on the iPad where it should display as expected. Our team is looking into this issue - and I believe the Moodle team is as well.

You may also want to check into the Storyline player and browser settings, and look to see that you've set up your course with a good size aspect for an iPad viewing.

Moodle 2.5 is known to have a number of issues when displaying SCORM content on mobile devices. We rewrote the SCORM player in Moodle 2.6 and improved it further in 2.7 for the purposes of improving mobile device support.

There are some posts in the Moodle.org forums from people who have used custom patches on 2.5 and earlier versions to improve iPad support but you should really upgrade to 2.7

For iPad (iOS device), the Storyline (Moodle - Scorm package) is still display out of the iPad screen when it is in Landscape view. No problem for the portrait view.

Whenever flip the iPad into portrait view, the content is fit well in the center of the iPad screen, but for landscape, the Scorm activity is just too big which cut-off half of the right content of the activity.

This Moodle Problem has been found in many many post, known as 2.6 & 2.7 problem.

There was no problem at all when we using the Moodle 2.1 & Storyline - Version 5, the problem comes out when we upgraded to Moodle 2.7 right now.

I cannot conclude whether it is problem on Moodle upgrade or Articulate response or even Apple iOS upgrade problem. Hope each of us can give the effort to fix it soon.
