1. Is there a way to turn off the default length when inserting a picture or shape? It defaults to Always Show and for whatever reason makes the timeline much longer that I need. Which leads to:
2. Is there anyway to change the timeline length other than dragging it to the desired length?
I do not believe there is a way to change the default away from Show til the end
While dragging the end of the timeline to shorten its length, press the left arrow or home key and you should see the timeline shorten to its lowest possible point.
There isn't a way to change the default - but it should be set around 5 seconds and only expands when adding media elements that would lengthen the time. So if you're seeing it add additional time, that sounds like something we'd want to take a look at.
Ron's suggestion on how to change the timeline length is another good option - but you'll need to ensure that there aren't elements set to specific timeline lengths as then the timeline will only shorten to that point.
