Understanding & editing storyline output folder when original file is not available.

Sep 09, 2021

Original file is not available, I only have the storyline output.

The course doesn;t mark as completed in LMS and I believe that tracking settings in the original file were not good. Which file in the Storyline output folder contains the part of the script with tracking information?

Is there any article explaining which of the files and parts of code in the Storyline output folder can inform us about the characteristics of the published project?

Basically you would need the original Storyline file to get this done.

But as you already said...thats not available anymore.

So what can you do ?

What i would do...
Create a simple dummy in Storyline... in 2 different versions.
One set the tracking settings as in your output...thus not good.
The other one set the tracking to be correct, so it marks complete on the LMS.

Then unzip those 2 files to different folders and use a tool as Beyond Compare or Examdiff Pro to compare the 2 folders and find the differences. That might give you a clue on what to change in your published title.

Doing a test with some sample files myself now. What i need to know is how was the original file published... as Web ? or Scorm 1.2 and just the wrong choice in tracking options ? and which where that? and what it needs to be for your LMS ? Then i might be able to figure out where to change what...

A quick test with using 2 different tracking options returned differences in 5 files in the Scorm package.

A file in html5/data/js/65YjcUneC6d.js had a difference like this in it:
diff1

Clearly the first line belonging to the SL without correct tracking just closes the player.. whereas the second line have proper tracking.

Although the other files had differences i couldnot directly link them to tracking.
It would be good to do a test with a simple file.. dissect that and if that brings clarity, use it on the original files.
