Uninstall of Articulate Storyline erased files

Jul 10, 2014

Yesterday I had downloaded storyline to use for a project. When it wasn't working properly I thought I would uninstall it and then reinstall it to see if the performance improved. After I selected uninstall it ended up deleting all of my Microsoft Office files off of my computer.

Does anyone know why this could have happened? Is there anyway to fix it?

Thank you!

Hi Dave and welcome to Heroes!

I'm really sorry to hear about the lost of your Microsoft office files. The is a repair method documented here for Storyline, and a more involved process here that removes all trace of Storyline in the event that it's behaving erratically. Do you know if you went through one of those processes or did it on your own?

I'd look to see where your "My Articulate Projects" folder is being located when you start Storyline and are saving the .story files to ensure that it's not connected to where all your Microsoft Office files are located. You will want to ensure that your Storyline files are being saved locally as described here.

You may want to enlist the help of your IT team to see if the Office files are saved somewhere in a temp file or recycle bin or recoverable.

Please feel free to let us know how it goes, and there may be other community members who have experienced similar and could weigh in here with other suggestions.

I had just uninstalled storyline through the programs slection in my control panel. I am wondering if the location where I had originally saved the Storyline files caused the problem.

Thanks for the advice I'm going to try and reinstall and see if I can get it to work. I tried my IT department but they said the files couldn't be recovered.
