Unruly states in assessment

Jul 22, 2022

I’d love anyone's help when you have a moment. I’m so very confused.

I have an assessment built in Storyline, and I have answers behaving differently in some places than others and I have exhausted everything I know to check as to why.

When you scroll over the answer options you see a purple highlighted hover state. There is no rhyme or reason as to why its happening where.

In addition – through the assessment there are answers that have an altered state when you click on the correct answer, the answer goes “down” and it’s a give away that you’re choosing the correct answer.

A few things to look at:

  • Check the states. I noticed that the purple color comes from the hover state. Not sure who added it, but that's where you can correct it.
  • The shifting comes from the resizing of the text box in the choices. I noticed that in some states, the text boxes looked like they were enlarged to fit the text. You also have options to autofit or not which will make the text shift. The selected states on some of the questions are shifted for the correct choice.

FYI: The states for question responses can be (to put it politely) quirky.

I always double-check them by running my mouse back and forth over the States panel for each response (without being in edit-states mode).

That makes it easy to spot if something is out of whack (such as the size being different). If it is, then use Edit States to correct it.
