Unusual Behavior of File

I have a Storyline 1, Update 8, file that has been acting very strangely and hope someone can help. Everything was working correctly until last week then intermittent behaviors began happening. I have been observing these behaviors in both the preview function and the published file. The file is text content mixed with simulations. The text slides have been behaving correctly. The simulations are having problems. The first instance was when all the captions had animations applied to them without me assigning the animations. I had to manually remove each animation. The next time I opened the file animations were randomly assigned to the captions. This has continued to happen for 5 days.  Random hotspots stop working and I cannot move forward with the simulation. Also, slides rearrange themselves. Any ideas? I would prefer not to rebuild the file. Thanks in advance.
