Update5 Helped bt Animations like FadeIn/ZoomIn comes with Jitter

Feb 19, 2014

I recently uploaded a project on articulate-online and tested it using iPad.

I found update 5 very useful as the

  • flickering issues and the
  • issues with Quiz questions

have been resolved.

Just have a quick question:-

Tested published outputs of the same project using both the updates 5 and 3 simultaneously.

Update 5:

The slides I play in iPad comes with a little delay/jitter

For Example:

If I click on a button and the text should fade in from right. (Simple trigger that changes the state of text to visible when button is clicked.)

It comes in series of steps...

one fourth text comes and then stops and then continues to fade in and then stops....

                                                   ( stops ) | TEXT

( stops) | TEXT TEXT TEXT

  • (Final Text) TEXT TEXT TEXT TEXT TEXT

Update3:

All the animations and interactions are loading and getting played seamlessly.

I'm a bit confused??

What can be the reason behind this, can this be the problem with iPad's RAM or anything else.( If its RAM then how can i check the RAM of the iPad I'm using??)

Anyone else is facing this kind of problem.

Hi Ashley,

Attached below is the link for sample story file..

https://cloud.scorm.com/sc/InvitationConfirmEmail?publicInvitationId=a2c89061-ee62-47e5-9468-46c607e1246f

While traversing to other slides via menu or next previous buttons using my iPad
I feel that the course hangs in between for a few seconds and then continues and in some cases the animated text appears but with jitter.
Please check the same in your iPad and let me know if you observe the same problem.

Thanks!

Hi Aman,

Thanks for sharing the course link. I noticed that the seekbar seems to stop/hang for a second or more, and oddly enough it always seems to be at about the same point in the seekbar regardless of the slide. It does cause the animation to stop at times as well, although always with the first line of text that looks like it's being animated by paragraph, after that it proceeds as normal. Can you share this sample file with with me as well?

Hi Aman,

Thanks for sending along the Storyline file, I've published it to my ftp, and here is a link to the html5 output: http://aterwilliger.articulatetest.com/SampleAnimations%20output/story_html5.html

I first viewed this in Google Chrome on my desktop which is a good testing platform for HTML5 content, and I still experience a bit of a delay at times although it seems once the slide loads, I'm able to revisit it and play it as normally. I also reloaded the course to see if the same behavior would occur in the same location on a revisit and it wasn't consistent. We recommend testing in Chrome, which provides the best HTML5 support, to establish a baseline performance of your content. Then compare your Google Chrome experience with mobile Safari. Depending on the results, you may need to adjust the design of your course to achieve better performance in mobile Safari. The delay is more pronounced within mobile Safari, although given some of the inherent limitations of mobile Safari and HTML5 here it was expected based on the performance in Chrome.

You may want to look at limiting the amount of entrance animations or changing the speed at which they appear.
