URGENT RFI: Storyline Compatibility with Oracle Peoplesoft LMS

Nov 16, 2012

My company is on the verge of making a purchasing decision for a new eLearning tool, and Storyline is at the top of the list.

However, there are concerns about LMS compatibility.  We are using Oracle Peoplesoft LMS, possibly version 9.0.

Has anyone bumped into compatibility issues with Storyline that we should know about.

Bruce, I'd just be curious if it works, e.g. does it upload courses smoothly, does the tracking mechanism work properly, is there anything in particular to be aware of. The implementation of PeopleSoft 9 that I'm aware of is not what I'd call a very user-friendly experience and I've shied away from it in favor of another (less sophisticaed) option I have available.

Hi all--we currently use Storyline within PeopleSoft ELM, I think version 9, but am not positive.  PeopleSoft is a bit cumbersome, but Storyline courses load smoothly once you get the procedure down.  You do need to send the imsmanifest.xml file to a compressed file (zip it) and PeopleSoft will be linked to that compressed (zipped) imsmanifest file.  Tracking seems to be very stable between Storyline and PeopleSoft, especially when compared to other tools.

Hi Brenda

You may be able to help me. We have a client with Oracle Peoplesoft LMS and we have just built content for them with Articulate Studio. We tested the content in the SCORM cloud and there were no errors - completed at the end. Its around 36 screens and we published with completed/not completed LMS status and tracking by the last quiz with 80% passing score.

The problem they are having is that when they launch the course and just look at a few screens then close it, the status changes to completed, when they havent.

I thought you may know a Peoplesoft setting that needs to be applied to fix this?

Thanks Brenda.

Cheers

Hi Beck!

Hmmm....seems like we had an issue like this a long time ago.  I may need to think about it for a while.  In the mean time, is it published for LMS in SCORM 1.2?  Our version of PeopleSoft (9.1) doesn't like anything else.

Our other settings appear to the same as yours:

  1. Under 'Reporting', set 'LMS Reporting' to 'Completed/Incomplete'.
  2. Under 'Tracking', select the 'Track using quiz results' option and use the drop down to select the correct quiz.

Let me know if that helps or not...I'll keep thinking!

There is a setting on the PeopleSoft side that could be impacting this.  On the activity details screen, the completion tab, there is a few boxes that need to be filled out.  There is a box there that says "passing required" and that needs to be checked otherwise PeopleSoft will complete when launched.  They will also need to put the 80 in there for the passing required score.  We have used the PeopleSoft 9.0 LMS for many years with Presenter/UPK/Captivate 4-6/Storyline and it will recognize all as long as the publish settings are correct and the activity is set up correctly to accept them.

There are several other nuances with the LMS we've stumbled on (files names have to be all lower case, no spaces, etc) but those might be specific to our version and a result of some of the customizations we've made over the years...

This is just the thread I need.

We have been using Studio very successfully on ELM 9.2, but in testing Storyline we have been unable to setup the winning combination for getting a completion for a quiz-based Storyline course.

We already practice the settings and suggestions above.  We can get a completion marking on a # of slides in a storyline course.  However, when we set for quiz-based SCORM 1.2 in Storyline, our LMS reports the score accurately, but the status of the activity shows incomplete.

Any help would be great because the ability to get a completion off a results page in Storyline is going to really add a ton of versatility to our training and allow a more adaptive approach.  Please let me know if you have any direction.  Thank you!

We have published this in completed/incomplete.

SLIDES:

To get the course live we republished for # of slides.  And while we get a completion and pass at the activity level, the component level shows failed if you try and re-launch the course after getting a completion.

QUIZ:

I think one of the greatest benefits for design with Storyline is being able to create an adaptive learnering experience.  Marking on a quiz (results page) is what we really need to be able to do.

Thanks again for the help.

Our company has been successfully publishing using Articulate Studio '09 for several years. We are now looking to upgrade to Studio '13 and also have more advanced users with Storyline. I am on the project subcommittee tasked with making the transition. My biggest hurdle has been with the ELM Administrator. I am a designer--not a programmer or LMS administrator. Frankly, I don't really understand all the ins and outs of SCORM and how it works in the Oracle Peoplesoft ELM. So, any suggestions, etc. ya'll can provide on what we need to do to make it work would be GREATLY appreciated--do's and don'ts???.  We currently have a Publishing Guide that outlines how to set up the player and the quizzing options. Does anyone else have such a document?

Also, does the ELM require locked navigation to work well? This is a current requirement.

Are there other considerations for not using complete/incomplete? We don't currently allow complete/incomplete as an option. So, even acknowledgements for compliance use a 100% tracker.

Is there already a private group for PeopleSoft ELM? If not, how do we start one?

I'm in the middle of an Oracle PeopleSoft ELM 9.2 and we are stuggling mightily with everything related to compliant content - SCORM 1.2 & AICC. If you have any lessons learned managing ELM content and/or making ongoin/auto assignments in ELM, I'd love to hear from you.

Thank you in advance for your advice!
