User Data Entry in Try Mode Slides - Blank Slide for Entry

Jan 24, 2014

When I first started using Storyline, I could have a user type data into a field within a try mode interaction and click submit. When entering the data, the look and feel was very much like using the actual application. Now when i try to do the same thing, I get a blank slide where the user is supposed to type the entry and click submit. Obviously, this does not look at all like the true user experience with the software. Why has this changed and what can I do about it? Thanks.

Hi Jody,

I'm afraid I'm not quite following. Did you record a new step-by-step screen recording? If so, are the slides not displaying any of the recorded content?

Is the Try Mode recording still available in the project from the Insert >> Record Screen option?

Also, if you've inserted the recording, how are you viewing this when the blank slide appears? Is there no content on the slide, does it go missing when previewing, or after publishing?

Thanks!

Hi,

Here is the situation. I record my application and insert Try Mode steps into my Storyline file. One or more of the steps requires user input in a field on my application screen. In my previous recordings, the step that required user input would still show my application and the user's input would be in the location on the screen where the actual field was located. Now, when the user arrives at the step where they should provide input, there is a blank slide that is set up for data input. So the blank slide actually does something-it accepts the user input-but it no longer shows the representative application nor mimics the look and feel of entering data into a field. Hope this makes more sense.

Hi Jody,

Is this happening for all users, or only a specific few? Are you seeing this on your end as well, when previewing or viewing the published version after it's been uploaded?

If you're only seeing this after it's been uploaded, are you able to share the URL for the project?

If you'd like, you're quite welcome to share the .STORY file. Perhaps if I'm able to take a look at the project, I can see what's causing the problem.

Thanks!

Hi, I am having the exact same problem using Storyline 360 - I previously recorded and did it as a try mode and got exactly what I should, the preview of the screen with the exact position for the user to input.  Now, I am just getting a white screen which the user can type on but in no way mimics the application.  I have tried from different PCs and am getting the same thing!  Can you please point me in the direction of a fix?

Thanks

Welcome, Glenn!

Sorry you're also at this roadblock. We haven't been able to recreate this behavior, so we'll need your help to unlock this mystery:

  • What version of Storyline are you using? You can find this detail by clicking on the Help tab, then About Storyline.
  • Can you select the white screen and reduce the size to reveal the slide background?
  • With your permission, we can test your .story file and will delete it once we sort what's causing this. You can share it publicly here, or share it privately with our Support team here.

We'll figure this out together!
