Using a button to link to an external certification using an .html file?

Jun 06, 2018

Hi Everyone,

I have a client who'd like to link to an external certification page hosted by one of their vendors. The vendor provided me with a .html file and asked me to "wrap the .html file in the SCORM package and create a link to it".

I'm not sure how exactly I would do this. Would I add the .html file to the same folder where my .story file is located and then add a trigger on a button to open that .html file?

Thank you for your help!

Gotcha. Thanks for clarifying. I'll follow the post as I would like to know the solution myself. I wonder if it could be embedded as web object and launched that way?

One of the Gurus should be able to give you a definitive answer. If you can post the actual html file they gave you it would probably help in getting you the answer.

It should be easy enough, if they gave you a good html file.
I took an html file that I had, and created a trigger to Jump to URL/file. This would represent the html they gave you. Just for fun, I also added the html to the resources tab.
I published (for CD, so you can view it on your desktop), and it included the html file in the published package. I zipped it to simulate publishing to an LMS, and have included the zip file. Download it, unzip it, and run Launch_story. When you click the button, you should open a new window that is the html file. It represents the html file they gave you and will be physically hosted on your computer (or LMS when you publish), but should have live links to pages hosted at a variety of spots on the internet (MIT, Amazon, U of Kentucky, U of Nebraska Medicine). These would represent the site that issues the certificate.
If it works for you, then you can do the same thing with the file they sent you.
One caveat: This html file depends on external files for background and stylesheet. I had to manually include them in the zip package (story_content/external_files), but if they gave you a self-contained file, you should be all right. If they didn't, I would ask them for one, rather than fiddle with extra files and linking them.

I am including the story file. It won't work without the html on your machine, but you can see how it is done.
