Using a variable to record how long it takes a user to answer Q

Jul 28, 2014

Hello,

I was just wondering if it is possible to create a question and award the user points based on the time it takes for them to answer. Similar to the game SceneIT for those who have played the game. For example if a user answers a question within 0-10 secs 10 points, 10- 20, 5 points, 30+ 1 point. Is that possible with Articulate Storyline? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hi Layton

it's possible with some variables defined.

Have a look at the attached example:

I created a variable called "points" with 0 as an initial value.

Then I added three rectangles outside the slide. The first one appears on the timeline in the 1st second, the other in the 5th and the last one in 10th sec. (but you can create as many objects as you want).

Every rectangle has a trigger to set the points value (the first rectangle is set for 15 points, the second for 10, the last one for 5).

On the correct layer there's a reference to points variable showing your result.

I hope it helps
