Using variables

I have a slide that I want instructions to appear only when the user first views the slide. The next time they go back to the slide, I do not want the instructions to appear. I’ve tried to set a variable to control this, but have not had any luck.

My variable is SamQuestionX. Once the learner clicks the X, the variable is set to True, the instructions are hidden, and the learner can do what they need to on the page. When the learner comes back to the page, it’s set to change the state of instructions to hidden if the variable is True.

This method is not working as the instructions still appear when the user comes back to the screen. Is there a better way to do this?
