variable query
Aug 18, 2014
I'm sure this has an easy answer, but somehow my mind blanks when working with variables.
I want users to type in a rating for their skill level--so the question would be, How do you rank your skill in this area? And they'd type their answer into the box. Then I want the text to come up--If you're a "their answer", what would it take to be "their answer +1".
Every time I try, I can get their rating to change, but it also changes in the first box.
Let me know if I need to clarify this! Thanks for your help in advance,
Frances

Hi Frances,
Without seeing it, I imagine you're referencing the same variable in each text box? I would suggest that the second text box is adjusted to the value of the first text box and then, you'd also add the trigger to adjust variable by +1 based on when the timeline starts or control loses focus.
Here is a really simple file just so that you could see how I set the triggers up.
Hope that helps!
Thanks so much. I have used it in the example attached.
Hi Frances -
Great job! One thought to consider - what to do if a user thinks they're at a 10...the sentence will then ask them what they can do to be an 11? Here's just an example of how you could change that behavior - what you make it say may be different though!
Sorry, one more question. Is there a way to set the starting value at 1 instead of 0 in the box to type? Can't figure out how to edit that.
In the variable table, set the starting value of NumericEntry to 1.
Thanks Simon.
