Variable/Trigger Combination works on one slide, but not others!

Apr 11, 2018

I am create a course in Storyline 360 that has an audio (voiceover) component on most slides. I created a variable "ViewMedia" that is defaulted to "False" which triggers to "True" when the audio clip is completed. I also set a condition on "Just to next slide" to only complete if "View Media" is set to true.

This setup worked on a different project, as well as the first instance of this combo on the current one. However, it does NOT work on any of the others- you can skip past the slides without completing the audio. I can see NO difference between the slide that works and those that don't- other than the content/layout itself.

Has anyone else experienced this problem, and if so, were you able to find a solution?

Thank you!

If you are using the same variable "View Media" on each slide that's the problem. Slide 1 sets it to true, and on each slide after that, it is already true before the media even starts.

You need either a trigger on each slide to set it to false when the timeline starts, or a unique variable for each slide.

If you want the audio to play each time the slide is visited, the trigger is your best bet.

If you want to play the audio only on the first visit to a slide, but not subsequent visits, then the individual triggers is best.

Thank you Walt! I appreciate the help. I reset the variable to false on the start of each slide and it now works the way I was hoping.

I went to the other module that I mentioned and it does NOT have the reset to false each time and it still works the appropriate way- do you know how that's possible? I'd love to recreate that for simplicities sake, but I don't want it suddenly breaking down when it goes live either!
