Viewing How Hotspot Interactions are Created/Coded

Jul 09, 2018

Apologies if this has been asked and answered. I did look for about 15 minutes and couldn't find it. I am creating a software simulation. For some pieces of it I want the learners to use something similar to the test mode. Unfortunately recording my screen and then using test mode causes a lot of issues due to shifting screen sizes, accessibility issues, having to update all the hotspots to buttons, customizing all the feedback boxes for brand alignment, not having a Submit button, etc. I want to create a slide with a still screen shot and an invisible button, and standard text prompts, and create the simulation experience myself with Correct, Incorrect and Try Again layers that are custom designed. Then I can just duplicate the slide and change out the screen shot and content in my instruction boxes and feedback layers. My issue is I created a screen recording with the 2 attempts and a Try Again option so I could see how the coding works and recreate myself. The recording automatically creates a hotspot interaction. I know this sounds pretty basic but I have searched and searched and can't figure out where to find the source Hotspot interaction to see how it is coded/created particularly for the Try Again layer. When automatic interactions are created by Storyline (like hotspot or submit) how do you view the "coding" - triggers, conditions, etc.? I am using Storyline 3.

Thanks

Mindy

Hi there, Mindy.  At the risk of thinking too simply, could you use a freeform hotspot quiz slide?  By setting your question properties, like number of attempts and feedback, Storyline will do the "coding" for you behind the scenes!  You'll still have the ability to customize your content, and this should work nicely for you to duplicate several hotspot slides.  You'll have to switch your images and hotspot locations, but the rest of the properties should remain intact.

Let me know what you think!
