Viewing Storyline 2 quiz completion/results in Blackboard Learn

Aug 25, 2016

I was quite fascinated with Storyline 2 and decided to use it to create a short automated pass-to-progress course on effective resource use. The course is composed of a series of very simple exercises which form a narrative and thus have to be completed in order, i.e. Storyline won't let you get to Question 2 before you correctly answered Question 1. This all went well and the course works fine on its own.

The problems started when I wanted to actually make it available to the students. I uploaded the SCORM package to Blackboard Learn which is used by my institution, but found out that while it worked perfectly well when opened from an instructor account, it crashed after just two slides if accessed from a student account (see error & log attached).

I then tried to, instead of uploading it as a SCORM package, simply upload all the files and link to the HTML5 file from Learn. This works perfectly fine, but does not allow me to check whether the students completed the exercises. Statistics tracking doesn't help either - since this is a pass-to-progress course, I really do need to know if the students actually answered the questions, not just if they clicked the link to open the quiz.

So, is there some way to:

1. Get the SCORM package to work in Learn on student accounts?

2. Check whether students completed the test when it's linked as HTML5? (note: since this is a pass to progress course, I don't even have to know their score - I could do with just the simple information of: did they get to the last slide?)

I'd be really grateful for any help!

(As a note, I can't simply compose a test in Learn, since for some reason it does not support the simple functionality of not letting you see the Q2 before you answered Q1.)

Hi Leslie,

Thanks for a quick answer! I could reproduce it on different accounts from different machines, but within the same university network. I can try it at home as well and check.

The course does not crash on SCORM Cloud. It also does not crash on Blackboard Learn when opened from an instructor account (which suggests that this isn't necessarily a connectivity issue). It only crashes when opened as a student.

I checked with our IT people who deal with BB within my institution, and they weren't able to help me. I didn't write BB directly, because in my past experience they are rubbish at responding and have very little interest in making their product actually usable. I thought that I'll be much more likely to find helpful people here!

If you think I should write them after all, can you recommend a channel which would be likely to get me a response?

Hi Simon. I have been getting that same error on Blackboard as well. Have you had any luck getting a solution?

I have spoken to our IT department and they are still looking at it. They thought it was a WiFi problem at our institution, but it seems to be broader/bigger than that.

This might not be a solution to your problem, but have you tried tracking their progress by exporting it to google?
