Viewing Survey Question Results

Mar 17, 2014

I have been working with Storyline for about 3 months and would like to incorporate a survey into the course I am currently developing. How I would view the results? Where would I find the results (I assume the LMS) and are they compiled for the whole course vs. individuals? Also, can you have a quiz and a survey in one course?

Hi Heather,

Where and how the survey results will display is dependent on your LMS, and I've heard a few users mention here in the forums that the Likert question is one that doesn't display often in their LMS and it's documented here. You could look into creating your own Likert question using a pick many question with a series of button sets if that was important to you. You can also have a quiz and a survey in the same course, and you'll just want to include them on the results slide so that all the information is reported. There is some additional information here on using the results slide.

Thank you Ashley! We currently have an old and outdated version of SOLO  LMS. I added some survey questions in a previous course and when we asked the SOLO rep to verify teh responses or if he could see anything - he was not able to see any interactions or responses. I am not sure if that is becuase of the way I added the survey questions or the version of the LMS that we have. :(

Hi Heather,

To help narrow down if it's the LMS or the file you could also test your course at SCORM Cloud  which is an industry standard testing method for SCORM Content. You'll also want to make sure that you're tracking the course with a results slide which reports to your LMS.

Ashely , I think the results slide is the key. I did not include a result slide for the survey questions because my understanding at the time was it just said thank you for answering the questions. I think I was thinking the results of the survey question would be communicated to the LMS without the results slide and I published with the tracking of number of slides viewed. Sounds like I need to go back and add the results slide so the LMS can record the survery question information correct?

Hi Heather,

You'll want to include the results slide, and you can modify what it looks like or how long it appears for - but when you add in a results slide you'll see a trigger created that is "submit results" and you'll need to visit that slide for the trigger to fire and capture your results (even if it's just a survey) so that it can be reported to the LMS.
