Welcome to Storyline, Claude! I'm a bit new myself, but you'll find you've tapped into an incredibly responsive and savvy community here (and those of us aspiring to be). You can indeed view your creations in Storyline with just the .story file. To allow others to use/see your story files, they'll either need Storyline installed locally, or you can publish your content easily to a variety of mediums (web, iPad, LMS, etc.) making it extremely easy to access.
In case you haven't already seen it, here's a tutorial on the options for publishing Storyline content. Very, very quick and easy with powerful tools.

I think if you just drag and rop the SWF file into a browser window, it will play.

I tried to play the .swf file alone but it didn't work..... I really need to use the swf file only !
Hi Claude, there is a story_content folder associated with the swf which has to be in the same root as the swf file.
The swf will not play unless that folder is with it.
