Visual artifact: problem when switching between two different custom views
Jun 03, 2016
Hi all,
Got myself a little issue here and I'm wondering if anyone else has seen this or has a solution:
I've got two custom screen types: one shows a tablet, and includes Notes on the lefthand side. The second type has no notes, so is typically centered in the player. It works fine throughout most of the course, then suddenly there is a tablet screen that switches to a normal screen, but the tablet is leaving a visual artifact behind in the player for the remainder of the course. (screenshot attached)
I tried re-importing the whole thing, deleting and replacing the scene where the problem appears, and then moving all the slides out of that scene into the one with the tablet so that they might run more smoothly.
I admit that my brand new computer on which I authored this is being returned because it has some RAM and indexing issues. I'm worried that an error has been introduced because of that, but this is a very complicated course and going back to an earlier version is going to cost me several days of work. Any thoughts?
P.S. - Possibly relevant. Prior to the artifacting issue, there was a lightbox that refused to close even though the command was properly programmed. I played around to get that to work (never seen an issue like that before) and immediately encountered this artifacting.

Mmm, so, now working on another computer, Storyline keeps crashing on publish with this error: unknown software exception (0xe0434352) at location 0x74d1c54f
(Tried reinstalling Storyline already, still getting error.)
Hi Leslie,
I can't say that I've seen that before and I'm curious if you'd be able to share a link to the course and a copy of the file with our Support Engineers? They can also assist you with the error message you're receiving and you'll want to first confirm that you're working on local project files and using the latest update of Storyline 2 Update 9.
Hi Ashley,
Yup, publishing to/from desktop and I reinstalled latest version twice this morning :-)
Well I think I solved the problem. I'm not sure what caused it, but since it started with that lightbox, I did a layer instead of a lightbox and toggled the custom settings back and forth until it displayed correctly. I'm still getting shut downs and errors, but now I suspect it's more due to a lack of processing power. I'm upgrading computers tomorrow, and hoping that will fix things. If not, I'll see if I can share all or part of the file. Thanks!!
Happy to hear you were able to fix it Leslie - and yes, please keep us posted if you continue to run into issue. You could look at pulling the error logs as detailed here if you wanted our team to weigh in on the crashes and shut downs you're seeing.
