Web Object URL is stating there is an error

Jul 24, 2023

Hello,

I have inserted an MP4 that I created from Camtasia into one of the slides. In doing so the Table of Contents does not display.  I then tried to insert it as a Web Object, but when doing so, I got an error that it was not a valid Web address. Also, searching for the Chrome HTML file does not show as an option to insert the Web Object.

1) Does Storyline not support certain file types for a Web Object?
2) What is an acceptable Web Address?

Thank you,

Israel

Hello Israel,

Happy to help!

Have you tried using the 'Test link' feature in the Insert Web Object window to see if your link is publicly accessible as an embedded link?

You can add websites or files as web objects in Storyline 360, as long those objects allow you to do so. Certain websites for example cannot be embedded using iframes which prevents them from being added as web objects. This article explains how to add web objects in a Storyline 360 course.

If you've already checked out the article and are still encountering issues, would you mind sharing the link that you're trying to add here so we can take a look if it can be added as a valid web object?

Hello Joe,

Please take a look at the file I've attached. The file Module 9 Demo_player will launch the video smart player, which is necessary for our purposes.

We need the Smart Player because we need the TOC to be displayed.

This video is not posted on a web server.

Thank you,

Israel

Hi Israel

Your Module_9_Demo folder has more than one html file inside of it. So storyline doesn't know which file it should be opening.

So the trick here is to rename the file you want storyline to open to "index.html"

I have attached a short how to video. (Sorry, I didn't record any audio).

In the video I rename "Module 9 Demo_player.html" to "index.html".

Then insert it into Storyline as a web object.
