Weird auto reformatting of quiz questions that I did not ask for!

Feb 08, 2016

Weird thing I've noticed in MANY of our courses....

We will have spent a lot of time formatting the quiz questions to be how we want. We publish for review. And when we come back in to the STL to make edits, the formatting is all over the place!!!

See the screenshots. The one where it's correct is from the course that I published on Friday and sent to my team for review. I closed STL, and this morning when I reopened it to work on the course, every single of my 25 questions were MISformatted.

WHY does this happen????

Hi Ashley,

So is it just the question text that is changing? Are you working on local project files as described here?  Are you using Storyline 1 or Storyline 2? Have you checked that you're using the DPI setting of 96 DPI as detailed here?  Are you able to share one of the problematic .story files here with us?

Ashley Schwartau

Yes, working with Storyline 2 on local projects as recommended with the DPI settings. It's not consistent so I can't predict when it'll happen and I've already fixed the file I'm working on and it's been saved. :( It's happened in the past on other quizzes. Sometimes, we don't notice the problem until after publishing and getting ready to deliver to a client (or after delivery ug!) since we assume that the quizzes will remain formatted the way we've set them. But it's like all of the text boxes suddenly change to size 24 and one continuous run one box instead of constrained to within the slide. Very odd. If it happens again with this file, I'll upload it straight away.

Hi Ashley,

Are you applying any templates or slide masters after you've already set up the question? Or anything else similar? I feel like I've seen that cause issues for users, as it's changing how it was set up or applied. If you run into it again or have a copy of the file prior to the new updates/changes let us know.

Hi Ashley. I am having this issue as well. Unfortunately, I already reformatted the questions, but I will upload my next problem file here. I am not applying any new templates or slide masters after adding the questions. In fact, sometimes it happens in files that we have used for ages and that have already been published numerous times (correctly in the past).

Hi Tyler,

I'm sorry to hear you've run into a similar issue. If you have a file to share we're always happy to take a look. In the meantime you may also want to confirm that you're working on local project files as described here and that you're using the latest update of Storyline 2 Update 7.

Lastly if files are behaving oddly you could look at importing it into a new file as detailed here as that tends to resolve other odd issues and behavior.

5 years after this discussion was posted and I am now having this problem.

I am using import questions from file.

I then apply the required slide layout.

I then have the same problem as described by other users above.

I manually change the formatting of the questions so they fit on the slide.

I make all the changes and then when I go back the formatting has changed. It doesn't revert, it changes to something different. The text is resized and the text box is not constrained, it just runs to the right off of the screen.

Thanks for sharing these details, James! Sorry for this trouble.

From here, I want our support engineers to help troubleshoot, so I've opened a support case on your behalf. You should see an email from me in your inbox with a private upload link. Could I have you share your files so we can help resolve this?

We'll be in touch shortly after we hear from you!
