What are the limitations of grouping objects?

May 11, 2016

I have a rectangle into which I've put two buttons and two text boxes. I which to group these into one group. I'm able to select all objects but the option to group is not available to me. It is greyed out. Why can I not group?

Hi there, I'm having the same problem as Danielle described, and I'm using SL 360. I have a dial with a bunch of lines and numbers as labels that I want to group. When I select the dial and all of the labels and try to group, the Group menu is greyed out--it is not available (nothing in the Group menu is available, including Ungroup, and the items aren't part of any other group). I've grouped items before. Don't know why the Group feature isn't available in this case. If anyone can shed any light, that would be great!

Hi Becky!

If you want to replace an image in a group, you can right-click on the image and select Replace Picture.

To add an object to a group, simply select the group and the additional object, right-click and select Group. This will give the group a new name. You can also ungroup then re-group with the additional object, as you mentioned.

Finally, you're right that there isn't a way to group from the timeline. You'll want to right-click the objects on the slide to group them, or use the Control + G keyboard shortcut.
