why do these links appear in the Storyline interface?

Newbie question,
I notice that when I open a file, there will be various "links" that appear in the upper left of the Storyline 2 interface. I'm just curious why they appear? I jump all around within the file while I'm working so why do these select few "links" to particular slides show up?

They are slides you have opened directly from story view
OOOOH! I see. Is there a purpose for that functionality that I'm missing?
It allows you to choose slides to Toggle back and forwards with.
