Why trigger doesn't work???

Sep 19, 2013

I reviewed my online course and re-edited based on learner's feedback. Everything is fine, but, the triggersof one slide do not work:: that change the image to visted when the user click on the image that lead to another layer - I use hotsopt and it doesnot work either

Please note that it only occurs in this particular slide (which worked before I made some changes) but NOT to other slides.  Any suggestions are appreciated.

Thanks,

Trang

Hi Trang,

I agree with Harri, it's hard to diagnose without seeing the set up of the triggers. Additionally, you'll want to make sure that you're following these best practices to prevent erratic behavior while working in Storyline:

  • Work on your localdrive (your C: drive). Working on a network drive or a USB drive can causeerratic behavior, including file corruption, loss of audio, and otherunexpected behavior.
  • You should also makesure the directory path to your project files and your published output is lessthan 260 characters (for example C:\Articulate).
  • Avoid using specialcharacters, accents or symbols in your file names.

I agree with Owen.

If the object you are changing the state of is on the base layer I would place the triggers in this order:

1- change state

2- show layer

If that doesn't help could you import the slide into a new file then upload that .story for us to have a look at? or, if you're worried about confidentiality/privacy issues you could upload to articulate support

Hi Trang

The order of the trigger doesnt matter in this example. On any particular layer, you have added a "Jump to slide" condition on close button. This sort of erases the state from the memory and shows the initial state of that figure. In this case the 'Normal' state.

Solution: For close button on each layer instead of "Jump to slide" trigger, use "Hide layer" trigger.
I have changed some of the triggers in the file.

Thanks
