Do you know what version of Storyline you're using? You can check by going to the "Help" Tab -> "About Articulate Storyline".
Also, can you confirm you're following the guidelines here for working locally and adhering to those file names/paths? Those would all help you prevent odd behavior like this one that can ultimately lead to corruption.
