Working with layers

Dec 09, 2012

Sorry to be a pain. I'm trying to understand layers. I'm working with a base slide which has 10 cloud images in different colours on it. I've created 10 layers from this base slide so that when a user clicks on each cloud the written word for the colour selected appears on the screen. However, I'm having trouble setting the slide up so that the layers reset to the base slide after each click. I can get the first transition to work but I don't seem to be able to get the slide to then automatically return to the base slide so the next colour choice can be made. I assume I'm missing something simple in my triggers or something else. Can anyone enlighten me please?

Hi - and you are NOT a pain

The only stupid question is the one that is not asked!

Assuming that you have a narration on each layer, one way to do this is to set up a Trigger that reads Hide Layer > This Layer > When Timeline ends OR when Media Ends.

Or...

Hide Layer > This Layer > When User clicks on xxx

Can you post the .story file here so that we can take a quick look and have a "play"?

Hi,

One way is to go into each Layer, and select "Hide Layer when the Timeline finishes".

At the moment you have the Timeline set to 5 seconds, so you may want to, for example, drop that to 2-3 if the only thing that happens is the word appearing.

If you have not done so already, there's a good Tutorial - here.

Hope that helps.

Take care - and shout when you need help.

Paolo,

You do not need to repeat your clouds on each layer.  They can still show through your layers. To see them on your layer timeline, click the little arrow that says "Base Layer Objects."  I deleted the layer clouds on the attached file.

So all you need to do is close each layer when the user clicks on a new cloud.  I did this by adding a rectangle off of the slide, and a trigger to "Hide layer when the user clicks outside of that rectangle". Any click will always be outside the rectangle because it is not on the slide.  So, where ever the user clicks next will result in the layer closing.

The result is that the user can click clouds quickly, and instantly the layer closes and they see the new layer.

See the attached revised story file.
