Yellow highlight is not syncing for the paragraph with Accessibility text.

Yellow highlight is not syncing for the paragraph with Accessibility text.

Hi

We are development Accessibility modules in Storyline 360 and have the very latest version of the Storylne 360 installed.

However when we press "Accessibility text" and played in the NVDA Screen Reader, we found that the yellow highlight is not in sync with the text in the Screen Reader.

While pressing the down arrow(screen grab 10-1) key the yellow highilght jumps up(screen grab 10-2) and not syncing with the text in Screen Reader.

Screen Grab 10-1: Is the second line in Screen Reader but,
Screen Grab 10-2: Is where the yellow hightlight is in the Screen Reader which means not syncing.

Any help would be much appreaciated.

Thank you,
Nagur.

Hello Nagur!

How are you testing the course with NVDA?

To properly test accessible text, publish your course for web or LMS. Then upload the output to a server. Accessible text might not change as expected when viewing content on your local computer or in Review 360.

If you're still seeing this behavior in an LMS or web environment, I'd recommend sharing your .story file with our Support Engineers in a support case for additional troubleshooting.

Hi Lauren,

Thank you for your reply.

We have checked the WEB and LMS and the text is reading sequentially without a problem. However the paragraphs not highlighting when we down arrow though the text is reading.

And when Tabbed it just jumped to next box instead to next paragraph.

Any solution to this? OR Do we need to share the .story file? Please let me know.

Hi Nagur! Thank you for providing that additional information.

As a follow up question: which version of NVDA are you using?

It would be helpful if you could share your .story file with us, either publicly here, or privately in a case. We will delete it from our systems when troubleshooting is complete.

Hi Joan!

Sorry to hear your screen reader isn't highlighting on-screen elements properly!

I'd be happy to help troubleshoot and had some follow-up questions to help us start.

  • Which screen reader are you using, and has it been updated to the latest version?
  • How did you publish the course, and where was it viewed when you noticed this behavior?

It would be helpful to see a screenshot or screen recording of the issue as you are experiencing it on your end. Feel free to attach them here in the discussion or privately through a support case.

Hi – It is JAWS December 2023. We used desktop version of Storyline and Rise cloud. It occurs in both. We publish SCORM 2004, 4th edition for both. Downloaded to our drives and then uploaded to the LMS.
We get double/triple reading of text, reads buttons but they don’t trigger (Rise, especially the coverage page). Everything is a little out of alignment. Is there a recommended character limit in Rise for a Cover Page?
It is also inconsistently happening. We recently picked up an update for Articulate (I think our version is up-to-date as of August or September).

Always learning,

Joan

Hello joan!

Thank you for these details! I haven't come across this behavior with JAWS. When you say it is happening inconsistently, is the behavior the same when using a different browser?

Another thing to try is using a different screen reader to see if that makes a difference. NVDA is a great option!
