I am looking for a free/inexpensive animated video maker that I can import my own audio and storyline compatible... nothing too elaborate... any suggestions?
What kind of animated video maker are you asking about? Something along the lines of After Effects? I don't know any free or inexpensive alternatives to that. I do know some inexpensive video editors.
I'm familiar with anime studios. It's a vector based animation application, but you can also use bitmaps. It isn't the best for creating frame by frame animation, but it's really good at motion tweening. I haven't played with it since a couple of versions ago, but I've been looking at it again and the new bone system looks very promising. If you have specific questions about it let me know.
Depending on your need, another option might be something like Real Illusion's program CrazyTalk Animator.
We use the head-only version (Crazy Talk) and I have to say, once you do the inital "mapping", it's pretty darn fast to create animations based off pics/illustrations. The nice thing of course is the auto-lipsync.
This is an old thread, but I thought I'd put in a recommendation for PowToon, which I found easy to use. I've got a sample cartoon and mini-review on my blog.
I also looked at Sparkol, GoAnimate, and Wideo but liked the visual style of PowToon more. It has a decent collection of music, too, although you can't fade the music so it ends abruptly.

I have looked at Xtranormal and I am attempting to play around with Anime Studios.
You could try Go Animate - http://goanimate.com/
You can even make animated videos using PowerPoint if you have version 10 or above.

Good luck,

A colleague of mine has done some custom animations in SWiSH, which is relatively inexpensive. swishzone.com
