Can I import a Storyline video into a powerpoint?

Feb 27, 2017

I'm working on a project where the trainers are determined to use Powerpoint.  I've talked them into letting me do the steps in the process in Storyline for ease of now and future editing instead of using a Snag-it video.  My question is:  Can I insert the SL video into the powerpoint?  I'm assuming yes but need to know if there are any special settings/conditions, etc.

Thanks

I don't usually work with screencasts. I'm sure there are others on the forum with much more expertise in this area. But here goes:

If you use SL to record a screencast, and you insert the screencast as a video into your SL project, SL will export that screencast as an mp4 when you publish the "course." You can find the published video in the story_content folder. It's name will start with "video_" followed by a random set of numbers and letters. You can copy that file, rename it, and import it into PowerPoint as you would any mp4.

If you record a screencast and insert it as step-by-step slides, the mp4 created when you publish the course just shows the screens. The cursor isn't visible, because that's added as a separate element in the timeline. So are the callouts.

There IS a way to create a video of whatever you set up in SL. Just publish the file with the segments you've set up. If the SL you're publishing includes screenshot videos, be sure to adjust your publishing settings to optimize video quality. Then use SL to record a screencast of the published playback. There may still be some degradation in quality, but at least you can get a video of what of want, and it will be relatively easy to edit in the future.

I hope this helps.
