Course Backgrounds - Best Practices

Jul 07, 2017

Hello all,

I'm new to the community and look forward to getting feedback on the following question. My boss would like to implement a standard background for all our online courses for consistency. While I'm all for consistency, some courses have a theme in which the standard background does not look right.

Do you use full graphics/images that match the theme of the course as a background or a standard background that doesn't always match the course theme? Why?

Great question, Billi! I think every organization goes about this a little differently. While I understand wanting things to be consistent, when everything looks exactly the same it can feel redundant. Not to mention that, like you said, sometimes the standard template just doesn't fit the course subject.

I would try and discuss this with your boss and see if you can come to a compromise about which things need to look the same for every course. Maybe the player controls could be the same for all the courses but the color schemes could change.

Here's a good article about choosing your color scheme that may help you drum up some good arguments.

Hope that helps! :)
