Custom Bullets

Feb 07, 2020

In Storyline 360, is there a way to add a picture to the list of options for bullets?

For instance, I would like to use our company logo as a bullet point icon.

Hi Marinetta,

I don't believe that there is a way to format your bullets in Storyline 360 to include a picture instead of a symbol, but here is a simple way to give the appearance of picture bullets and nobody will know that you "cheated" !

What I have done is to place the text in a text box without formatting it as bullets and then inserted an image (in this case a version of a well-known logo!), sized it to suit, copied it four times, aligned the images with the text and then grouped the four images together. Finally I aligned the group box and the text box to ensure the images were correctly lined up with the text.

At the end of the day, if you substitute your own artwork, it will look like a set of bullets with your company logo and nobody will be able to tell the difference:

If you need to add your bullets to several slides, all you need to do is to copy them from the first slide and then add or subtract images and adjust the alignment as necessary. You might even be able to set up a Master slide to save you all the copying and pasting.

Hope this helps.

Hi Marinetta -

I do this all the time for my clients and it’s always a big win. The key is to get get your image in an .svg format and convert the .svg to a .ttf font.

Here’s how I do it:

  1. Create your image or log in a graphics program and export as an .svg. I prefer Illustrator but if you only have a .png, .jpg, or .gif of your logo file you can convert it in the next step.
  2. Convert your image to .svg format using: https://image.online-convert.com/convert-to-svg You should try and use the highest resolution possible to preserve image quality.
  3. Convert your .svg file to a .ttf font file using http://fontastic.me/ You’ll need to register for an account but it’s free.

It takes some trial and error in Fontastic. By default, the font name will be “untitled-font” and that’s the name your font shows when you install it.

Do this first: When you create a “New Font” give your font the name you intend on using when you install it. Renaming the font after you convert it will not work.

Thank you.
That is what I have been doing, was hoping for a short cut.
Appreciate you getting back with me.
