I am wondering if it is beneficial to spend time creating a slide in e-learning course that explain what the controls are in the course for the learner so they know how to navigate through the course (ie. resources, next, back and menu buttons) and if so, if anyone has examples of how they created these?
Hi Tricia! I've seen varying opinions on this very topic. To answer your question, you may want to check out this article to help you decide what's best for your target audience. If you end up deciding to include instructions, here are some ideas you may want to consider. I hope that helps!
I have a slide "Before you start" which I show just after the welcome page. Then users can set the audio options and view navigation help. The navigation help is just one slide with a screen-shot of a typical slide and arrows pointing to the various navigation options (menu, prev, next etc). I also include a link to the help on the top menu bar so users can jump back to it from any point in the tutorial.

PS I'm using storyline 3
Thank you, Cheryl! Appreciate your input!

Hi Tricia,
We use Rise, and have created a short tutorial that is assigned to all learners.
It explains LMS controls, course navigation, how to use the different interactions, quizzes, course completion, etc.
We get very few support calls from learners as a result.
