How to swap images but keep states the same

Jul 28, 2017

I am working with a template using tabs that have three states (normal, hover and selected - where the learner jumps to another slide.) I want to swap out the shape for an image I created but keep the states the same. I am new to Storyline and not completely comfortable in use of states. Is there a way to swap the shape for my image - copying the states. I apologize in advance if this is a silly question.

Thank you for any help on this - my presentation is due on Sunday.

Hi Nancy,

Do you want the images to be square/rectangle, or the same shape as what you have now for the years? If the latter, you could do a picture fill on the shape with the normal state selected, which would leave the other states the way they are. You'd want to make sure the picture is pre-cropped to the right dimensions so it doesn't get squished.

If you want the former, I'm afraid there's not a super easy way to make the switch. You could change the shape to a rectangle and then do a fill. However, that's basically the same amount of effort as deleting what you have now, adding the images, building the alternate states in one image, and then using format painter to copy those states to the other images. A key thing to know about format painter is that you can't copy the format from a shape and paint it to a picture or vice versa, you have to paint like from like.

Cheers,

Allison
