Interactive Videos - Thinking outside the box

Jul 25, 2018

Hi everyone,

First off just to say I am new on here and whilst I have developed a heap of eLearning content in Articulate Storyline  I am new to the "new" suite of products rather than just Storyline and am stumped with how to approach a new idea for a current project I am working on.  Please say one of you knows if this is possible or not - I've a (hopeful)feeling its just not a feature I have used before...

The objective is to train our user base to enter in client data in the correct way (into a bespoke app we use) and the approach is to highlight to them the key mistakes folks are making when adding in data.  My initial thought was to do a series of short screen casts recording making the one of the top 5 mistakes and the user then has to spot the mistake and if they get it correct they progress to another screen cast video or if not they get a Failure Caption and audio narration just explaining what the mistake was.  The idea behind this is to harness the power of learning from our mistakes rather than just telling them what to do/not to do and spoon-feeding.

My issue is how do I set up the screen casts so they interact to say what the mistake was?  I have thought maybe a watch the video and then give an essay answer but I would really like to avoid the manual marking of these. So I thought maybe a hotspot which only appears for a set amount of time so they have to click the screen at the point that they see the mistake being made and they are then marked as correct if they do it whilst the hotspot is 'active' (hopefully that makes sense)...  Does anyone know if this is possible?  Is there a better way of doing this?
Cheers folks!
