Operator Training Simulator (OTS)

Feb 05, 2020

Hi,

I am interested in developing a "Operator Training Simulation” (OTS) for an E-learning course I am considering developing. I have found no E-learning authoring software that suits, and it looks as if I would need to construct a code to develop a OTS -
This link has examples of an operator training simulator for training: https://www.simutechmultimedia.com/ - the simulator I want to develop will not be as detailed or as complex as those from simutech, but you can see the type interactivity that I would like.
I have researched and contacted a number of programmers/software developers but I have not found anyone that has undertaken this type of project (in Australia)

Hi Pat,

This simulation-oriented approach is one I've been pursuing for the past 3 years or so. Here's a recent Hazardous Waste course I built in Storyline 360. I think it shows that you can create highly interactive, simulation-based courses in Storyline. It does require a willingness to get comfortable with coding triggers, but it is doable.

There's the usual boring boilerplate junk at the beginning (why are you here? objectives, etc.) and a bit of stage-setting, so it does take a little while to get to the good stuff. Once you're past the exercise where you characterize the four beakers of waste as either hazardous or not (and why), you're into a pretty fully-realized immersive simulation in which you are told what waste you've generated and then you go through the steps to dispose of it properly. We even let you do it "wrong" so you can learn from your mistakes (try pouring the acid waste down the drain, for example).

The course is "branched" because we have two slightly different sets of paperwork (log forms, etc.) depending on which research lab or labs you work in here, so I recommend choosing the Foundry branch (though you can choose either, the Foundry branch has a slightly easier log format).

Navigation is fairly locked down, unfortunately, so you won't be able to just skip to the best parts. Still, hopefully it's useful to see a Storyline-built simulation-oriented example.

Cheers!
