Pull Structure - Graphic Design and User Experience
Feb 24, 2020
Hello fellow e-learning masters and novices,
I'm currently developing two courses for climate justice. One of them is really well-suited for the Pull Structure, where a learner would pull content of their choice.
I went ahead and designed slides and the course user flow on paper, carefully checking the possibilities offered by both SL 360 and Rise 360 on the way.
Now that I started building the course, I realized there's a problem: How can I create pathways between Rise and Storyline blocks in Rise?
I attach the Menu that would encourage users to explore content at their own pace. This is from Storyline. BUT these graphic elements are supposed to be buttons for Rise lessons...
The only way to do something like this in Rise is with Buttons, am I right?
Will I have to re-design my content or stick with Storyline?
Thanks for any advice!

If you plan to use Rise you will need to redesign the course. Either use just Storyline or Rise with buttons.
Hi Phil,
Thanks for the advice. I was under the impression that there was a workaround: if I publish the course to a website, wouldn't that give me links to lessons? Or only to Rise courses? In this case I would have to make each lesson a Rise course.... Sounds a bit complicated, though....
I am not sure if there is an internal linking structure. If there is you will have to publish and done the links.
Not a very elegant solution as the storyline block will be unable to track the completion of the sections. So you leave it to the user to remember what they visited.
I would go with Storyline or if you want the branching and scrolling dynamic, use adapt or evolve which have this type of menu structure.
All of them are tools and the skill is in choosing the correct tool for the right project.

Hi Miki,
If you publish your Rise 360 course and host it on a web server then you could grab the unique URLs from each Rise 360 lesson and link to those in your Storyline 360 course. However, I think that this would make for a pretty confusing experience for the learner. Is there a reason you don't want to develop the whole course in either Rise 360 or Storyline 360?
