FYI this was not happening yesterday when I started this course-- just happened after I installed the update.

Well that certainly doesn't look fun - you mentioned it occurred after the latest update - did you see if you're having difficulty on all your files, or just this one? Can you also confirm you're working on project files as detailed here? Are you able to look at importing it into a new project following these steps? If the behavior persists, and it's just this file we'll want to take a look at it. You can upload it here using the "add attachment" button at the bottom of the reply window or you can send it along to our Support engineers here. 

Also, just as an FYI - the majority of technical/support related queries are posted in the Product side of the forums, while design/how to or general advice seem to be on this side in the Building Better Courses side. Either way, staff or the community members will be able to chime in and assist - but just helps if you need to route a question to a particular subset in the future!

I imported it into a new project and it seems like it's working as expected now. Not sure what the issue was but, if its working, I'll take it.  And I'l post in the product discussions! Thanks again!
