Recording of scores in the LMS

We have observed that the courseware fires a score to the LMS when:

1) the score result is presented to the user. or they close the courseware window.

Then either

2a) If they relaunch the courseware and say they wish to continue where they left off, they are presented with the score page and the question review quiz or try again.  If they click try again then the original score is fired back again.

or

2b) If they relaunch the courseware and say they wish to continue where they left off, they are presented with the score page. If they close the course window directly, i.e. exit. the course again fires the original score back.

i.e. the LMS has two duplicate score entries.  Is there any way of stopping this?
