Reducing File Sizes
Mar 14, 2017
G'day Heroes,
I have 2 questions which may have been discussed before but I'll give it a try!
Earlier in my career I built courses with videos & they were automatically converted to Flash in the original Articulate software, resulting in smaller file sizes. We do not have a Learning Management System but are supposedly working with PeopleSoft for one. Meanwhile, my IT Department are complaining about my course size (over 30 MB). The driving factor on the size is my utilization of HD videos for technical training.
The network gurus are asking me about streaming??? No matter where the videos are located they will require server space, so I am not understanding the reasoning. If this is a better option, will there be a chance of failure to launch...which is why I like embedding them in the course.
The second question is: Will there be a file size limit for the LMS?
I work for a small city municipality, so there is no funding for alternative solutions.
Any assistance greatly appreciated.
Ben

Hi Ben
for point 1 - you could utilise the 'web object' functionality - see this tutorial or see the tips in this previous post about reducing file size
for point 2 - you'd need to check with your LMS vendor if there are file size limits.
Thanks Wendy. Talked with my IT Dept Head today and it looks like they are
going to set up a dedicated e-learning server until we get an LMS. This is
great since I am training four analysts at the end of the month & with my
templates, they will be producing courses as well.
